Officials from United Airlines have met with Yeager Airport officials to discuss opening a direct route from Charleston to Newark in the very near future, according to reports.
Yeager Airport spokesman Mike Plante tells WSAZ that more than a month ago the Assistant Airport Director and him met with United Airlines officials in Chicago to discuss expanded service.
Plante says one of the options United Airlines is exploring is a new nonstop flight to Newark Liberty International Airport. That’s just across the river from New York City.
Charleston hasn’t had a direct flight to New York since 2013 when American Airlines canceled their flight to LaGuardia International.
Plante says United Airlines is crunching the numbers to see if the flight is possible, he expects them to get back to Yeager with an answer sometime next week.
