Aeromexico Flight Lands With One More Passenger Than Expected After In-Flight Birth

An Aeromexico Boeing 737, registration XA-AMA, en route from Mexico City International Airport (MEX) to Ciudad Juarez International Airport (CJS) on flight AM 113, became the scene of an extraordinary event on March 15, 2024, when a passenger gave birth mid-flight.

The airline has confirmed the incident, noting that the woman and her newborn were promptly taken to a hospital for medical care upon landing.

The unexpected labor occurred on the short domestic flight, drawing immediate support from the cabin crew and a physician present among the passengers.

This teamwork ensured the mother and baby received the necessary care until they could be attended by medical professionals on the ground.

Aeromexico issued a statement highlighting the rarity of such events, citing a National Institutes of Health (NIH) study from 2020.

The study, which reviewed instances from 1929 to 2018, found that there were 74 recorded births on commercial flights, with 77% occurring on international journeys and 26% necessitating flight diversions.
