Air India plans to increase their flight frequency between Vancouver and Delhi from 3 flights per week to daily, according to a press release by the airline.
Increased traffic on the route between India and Canada has spurred the flight frequency change and has been aided by Air India's return of the Boeing 777-300 ER (extended range) aircraft.
Air India says in its release that they have been working with Boeing to return planes back to service that were grounded due to Covid and 'other reasons'.
What's not totally clear is if some of the groundings are the result of a recent report that some of AI's planes are not airworthy at present due to seat issues.
The report also says Air India is leasing some 777s to at least temporarily replace their grounded aircraft.
"This increase in our frequency between Delhi and Vancouver is very welcome for many reasons. It is another sign of recovery from the pandemic and caters to strong customer demand. More importantly, it marks the first step in restoring Air India's fleet and international network," said Mr. Campbell Wilson, MD and CEO, Air India.
We are pleased to mark this significant milestone, and the team at Air India is hard at work to enable more expansion in the near future," he added.
