United Airlines Boeing 777 Makes Emergency Landing Due to Midair Fuel Leak

A Boeing 777-300 aircraft operated by United Airlines was forced to execute an emergency landing on Monday due to a fuel leak encountered midair.

The incident occurred during United Airlines Flight 830’s journey from Sydney to San Francisco, which was abruptly redirected two hours into the 14-hour flight due to a “maintenance issue”.

The emergency landing safely concluded with all 183 passengers and crew members deplaning at the gate as normal, according to the airline’s statement. This event adds to a series of recent aviation mishaps involving Boeing aircraft.

Earlier incidents include a Boeing 737 making an emergency landing in Texas on March 4, shortly after takeoff when its engine emitted flames, captured in a video showing the intense blaze. The flight, bound for Fort Myers, Florida, experienced this engine malfunction approximately 15 minutes into its journey. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

Another notable incident took place on March 7 when a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to Japan diverted to Los Angeles International Airport. The diversion was necessitated by the loss of one of the Boeing 777-20’s landing gear tires after takeoff, an event documented in available footage. The aircraft, carrying 235 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and four pilots, managed a safe landing at LAX.

Furthermore, on the subsequent day, United Flight 821, destined for Mexico City from San Francisco International Airport, was diverted to Los Angeles due to a problem with the aircraft’s hydraulic system. The Airbus 320 involved in the incident experienced a malfunction in one of its three hydraulic units, necessitating evacuation for the 105 passengers and five crew members. Alternative arrangements were made for their continued travel.

Adding to the string of incidents, a United Airlines flight veered off a runway at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on the same day, prompting an evacuation of passengers onboard.
