Hehe…it looks like Delta Air Lines has really poked the hornet’s nest this time (or is it the bear?)…

Frequent flyers are absolutely livid over the recent changes to Delta’s SkyMiles program. Imagine being so loyal to a brand, and then they pull a switcheroo and turn your hard-earned miles into a “pay to play” ordeal. Yeah, you heard it right…Delta’s loyalty program has gone the route of freemium mobile games, and the customer base is having none of it.

Alaska was first to the 'rescue'

Now, if you thought this would pass by without other airlines seizing the opportunity, you’re sorely mistaken. As if following the laws of the jungle, Alaska Airlines was the first to pounce. They announced a status match for any Delta defectors over the weekend.

JetBlue wants you to come over and get a big hug...and some miles...

But hold on, JetBlue has entered the chat. They’ve decided to throw their hat into the ring, aiming to lure in Delta’s elite with a chance to fly as Mosaic members of their TrueBlue program. Ah, nothing like a little inter-airline rivalry to spice things up, right?

However, and this is a big however, you’ll have to act faster than a jet on takeoff if you want in on JetBlue’s deal. It’s not an all-you-can-fly buffet; this offer is available only for the first 30,000 Delta elite members who apply or until the witching hour of October 31st…whichever comes first. After that, you’ll be stuck watching from the sidelines like the rest of us plebeians.

So if you’re a Delta flyer who feels scorned, now’s your chance to swipe right on a new airline relationship. If nothing else, this entire fiasco is a stunning example of how quickly the tides can turn in the airline industry. And hey, if you’re a Mosaic member, maybe they’ll even throw in a free bag of pretzels. Cheers to small victories!

You know what they say: One airline’s loss is another’s gain. And in this case, Alaska and JetBlue are hoping to score big. If you’re a Delta elite pondering your options, maybe it’s time to play the field a bit. For more details on this turbulent tale, click the link to read The Points Guy’s full report.

Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride…

…or maybe a costly one for some…
