On Wednesday, Boeing faced scrutiny in two separate Senate hearings concerning reported safety concerns at the aerospace giant. The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation held the first hearing, which examined findings from a February report by a panel of industry and government experts. According to the report, there is a "disconnect" between Boeing's management and its workforce, which negatively impacts the company's safety culture and hampers employees' ability to voice concerns.

This expert panel was established following the tragic incidents involving the Boeing 737 MAX in 2018 and 2019, which resulted in the deaths of 346 people due to a design flaw in the aircraft. A significant point of discussion at the hearing was the organization designation authorization program. This program allows Boeing, through delegation from the Federal Aviation Administration, to perform certain inspections and approvals on new aircraft, a practice that has come under increased scrutiny.
