Alaska Airlines Unveils New Location at San Francisco International Harvey Milk Terminal 1

Alaska Airlines has officially commenced operations at its new location within San Francisco International Airport’s Harvey Milk Terminal 1. Following a two-year and $30 million relocation project from Terminal 2, the move marks a notable upgrade in facilities and services aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.

The transition to Harvey Milk Terminal 1 not only positions Alaska as the terminal’s largest carrier but also introduces advanced features such as automated bag drops—a first at the airport. The new technology aims to streamline the check-in process, allowing passengers to process their checked luggage within minutes, effectively reducing congestion and wait times.

“Our new home in San Francisco International Airport’s Harvey Milk Terminal 1 delivers a world-class experience that our guests will love while supporting our goals of innovation, sustainability, and long-term growth,” stated Shane Jones, senior vice president of fleet and real estate at Alaska Airlines. This move is anticipated to cater to approximately 5 million passengers annually, emphasizing Alaska Airlines’ commitment to growth and innovation.

The upcoming launch of Alaska’s newest and second-largest Lounge next month is a key highlight of the relocation. The lounge promises an expansive space of 11,000 square feet, providing a refined relaxation area with 55% more seating, including signature loungers. Guests will have access to an extended menu featuring fresh local ingredients, along with a barista-staffed coffee bar and complimentary beverages.

This strategic relocation also enhances Alaska Airlines’ collaboration with fellow oneworld Alliance members, simplifying connectivity for passengers transitioning to international flights. From SFO, the airline and its partners currently offer over 130 weekly flights to 18 international destinations.

Furthering their infrastructure investments, Alaska Airlines has announced upcoming enhancements at other major hubs. At Portland International Airport, a new lobby is slated to open in August, and at Los Angeles International Airport, a comprehensive overhaul at Terminal 6 is expected to be completed by the end of July, featuring new carpeting, lighting, and power-equipped seating.

The move to Harvey Milk Terminal 1 is strategically timed to coincide with the busiest travel months, offering increased flights to major West Coast cities and new services like the nonstop flights to Burbank.

As Alaska Airlines continues to invest in its network, the focus remains on improving the efficiency and quality of the travel experience, promising significant benefits for passengers and operational advancements in the years to come.
