Houston’s two major airports, William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport, are set to reopen today following closures prompted by this week’s severe winter weather. Snow and ice forced operations to halt on Tuesday, significantly disrupting travel plans for many.
According to information obtained by FOX 26, “TSA lines will open at 9 a.m. at both Hobby and Bush Airports.”
Flights are expected to resume in a staggered manner, beginning with arriving flights at 10 a.m. “Departing flights will start taking off at 11 a.m.,” the report added.
The resumption of operations marks a gradual return to normalcy after the unusual weather event, which brought significant challenges to Houston’s transportation infrastructure. Passengers are advised to anticipate some delays as airlines work to clear backlogs and adjust schedules.

A powerful winter storm swept through the Southeastern United States on Tuesday, bringing snow and ice to multiple states and significantly impacting travel. By early afternoon, thousands of flights were canceled, and major transportation hubs faced operational challenges.
Flight Disruptions Across the Region
The flight tracking service FlightAware reported that more than 2,000 flights in and out of the United States were canceled by Tuesday afternoon. The brunt of the disruptions was felt in Texas, where airports in Houston preemptively shut down during the morning in anticipation of severe weather conditions.
Airports in other parts of the Southeast were also affected. Tallahassee International Airport in Florida announced plans to close later in the day. Similarly, in Louisiana, “most flights were canceled at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.” The airport indicated on its website that airlines aimed to resume operations on Wednesday, contingent on weather conditions.
Alabama Airports Temporarily Suspend Operations
In Alabama, both the international and regional airports in Mobile faced closures due to the inclement weather. According to the Mobile Airport Authority, the facilities will remain closed until Wednesday at noon, when operations are expected to resume.
Challenges Beyond Air Travel
The winter storm has also made ground travel treacherous across the Southeast, with icy roads and reduced visibility creating dangerous driving conditions. Train services have similarly faced delays and disruptions as the region grapples with the impact of the storm.
As the Southeast contends with the rare and severe winter weather, the situation highlights the region’s vulnerability to extreme conditions that disrupt critical transportation networks.
