Seattle-Tacoma International Airport unveiled its expanded C Concourse Thursday, tripling the space from 81,000 to 229,500 square feet just as the city prepares to host World Cup matches this summer.
The $399 million project adds four floors above the existing building without touching a single gate — a creative vertical solution for one of the most space-constrained major airports in the country. SEA ranks 11th in passenger volume nationally but has long struggled with the physical limitations of its footprint.
The new space includes expanded dining and retail, an interfaith prayer and meditation room, a nursing room, and a new Alaska Airlines lounge. The centerpiece is a feature called the “Tree at C,” a central gathering space anchored by a marketplace on the main floor, restaurants and views on the upper level, and a glass-enclosed lookout deck with sightlines to the Olympic Mountains.
The concourse is also the first at SEA to fully embrace the Port of Seattle’s Sustainable Evaluation Framework — solar panels, fossil fuel-free heating, and water conservation systems throughout.
Why It Matters: If you’re connecting through Seattle this summer — and with World Cup matches drawing international travelers through SEA — this expansion means more breathing room, better food options, and a new Alaska lounge worth knowing about. For a chronically cramped airport, this is a genuine upgrade.
