Delta Air Lines is adding yet another nonstop from Austin-Bergstrom, this time targeting San Jose, California, with once-daily year-round service launching October 6. The Austin-SJC route puts Delta in direct competition with Southwest, which already operates the corridor.
The San Jose flight is the seventh new Delta route announced from Austin this year alone. Year-round service to Columbus and Kansas City launched June 7, seasonal flights to Asheville, Bozeman, and Kalispell followed June 13, and now San Jose rounds out a remarkably aggressive expansion push from a single airport.
The numbers behind the expansion tell the real story. Delta operated just over 14,000 departures from Austin in 2023. This year it’s on track to exceed 21,000 — a 47% jump in two years. The airline also opened a permanent flight attendant base in Austin last October, signaling this isn’t a temporary bet on a hot market.
Passenger totals backed the move, with Delta recording a 15% increase in Austin traffic in 2025 compared to 2024.
Why It Matters: Austin has quietly become one of Delta’s fastest-growing focus cities, and the buildout is accelerating. If you’re flying in or out of AUS, Delta’s expanding schedule means more nonstop options and more competition on existing routes — both of which tend to work in the traveler’s favor on price and frequency.
