New Air Force One Arrives at Andrews, Trump Unveils It to the Media and Promises a July 4th Flyover

New Air Force One

The Qatar-donated Boeing 747 that will serve as the next Air Force One has officially arrived at Joint Base Andrews, with President Trump hosting a media tour Friday and declaring it “the world’s most luxurious plane.”

The aircraft — a heavily modified 747-800 now designated VC-25B — rolled out in a new red, white, and dark blue color scheme personally selected by Trump, a significant departure from the light blue and white livery that defined presidential air travel for decades. The Air Force confirmed the plane has begun commissioning flights ahead of entering full service.

Trump used the unveiling to announce the new aircraft will headline the July 4th flyover of Washington D.C., part of the nation’s 250th birthday celebration. “A flyover the likes of which we’ve never seen before,” the president said, adding that the fuel cost was a minor concern given the government owns the planes.

The arrival closes the chapter on the previous VC-25A fleet — the iconic 747-200s that carried every president from George H.W. Bush through the end of Biden’s term. As reported in an earlier SkyGoFly story, White House staff posted emotional farewells to the retiring aircraft this week.

Two additional 747-800s being modified by Boeing as permanent replacements won’t be ready for roughly two more years.

Why It Matters: The most recognized aircraft in the world just got a new paint job and a new airframe — and it’ll be making its most visible public debut over the nation’s capital on July 4th.
