American Airlines has suspended operations at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas following earthquakes that struck Venezuela’s capital region, with service currently scheduled to resume July 3 when the airport reopens.
For travelers with upcoming flights to or from CCS, American has issued a travel alert allowing affected customers to rebook without fees, cancel, or request a full refund. The airline has also capped fares on all direct flights to and from Caracas to prevent price gouging during the disruption.
On the relief side, American is partnering with the American Red Cross and UNICEF to support earthquake response efforts in Caracas, La Guaira, and surrounding regions. AAdvantage members who donate a minimum of $25 to the Red Cross through American’s fundraising link will receive 10 AAdvantage bonus miles per dollar donated. Members can also donate AAdvantage miles directly through the Miles for Social Good program to support recovery operations on the ground.
UNICEF’s Change for Good program, a longstanding American Airlines partnership, is also accepting donations to fund emergency response teams working with children and families in the affected areas.
Why It Matters: If you have travel booked to or from Caracas in the coming days, contact American now to understand your rebooking options before July 3. And if you’re an AAdvantage member looking to put miles or dollars toward the relief effort, American has made it straightforward to do both.
