American Express will shutter its Centurion Lounge at Mumbai Airport’s Terminal 2 Domestic Departures on July 1, 2026, ending one of the few branded Centurion locations operating outside North America — and according to Amex, the decision wasn’t theirs to make.
The closure is tied to sweeping changes in Mumbai Airport’s lounge infrastructure since Adani Airports took control of the facility. Adani has been systematically consolidating the airport’s premium lounge offerings under its own brand, rebranding former GVK lounges and pushing out legacy third-party operators in the process. American Express was effectively asked to vacate rather than choosing to exit.
Platinum and Centurion cardmembers won’t be left without options. Starting July 1, eligible Amex Platinum cardholders will receive access to the Adani Business Class Lounge in Terminal 2 Domestic regardless of their ticketed cabin class — the same lounge that hosts Air India Business Class passengers. Access continues; the exclusivity of a dedicated Centurion facility does not.
The symbolic loss is real. Amex has spent years building its proprietary Centurion Lounge network as a flagship premium card benefit, and Mumbai’s closure means India no longer has a dedicated Centurion presence. Whether that changes with a future location remains an open question.
Why It Matters: If you’re an Amex Platinum or Centurion cardholder transiting Mumbai’s domestic terminal, your lounge access continues — just under a different roof. Update your lounge plans before July 1 and don’t show up expecting the Centurion door to open.
