Air Premia, a hybrid service airline based in South Korea, announced a strategic enhancement to its operational infrastructure on June 12, with the acquisition of a spare engine for its Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This move, part of a broader effort to bolster reliability and responsiveness, aims to improve aircraft availability and customer trust, especially in unexpected situations such as engine repairs.

This new engine, a Rolls-Royce “Trent 1000 TEN (Thrust Efficiency and New technology),” represents the latest advancement in the Trent engine series. Optimized for the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the Trent 1000 TEN version boasts increased thrust, reduced noise levels, and better fuel efficiency through cutting-edge technology.

Air Premia’s proactive approach to operations management is further illustrated by their ongoing relationship with Rolls-Royce, initiated in 2019. Under a subscription-based engine care service contract, the airline has ensured a continuous supply of spare engines, a critical component of their strategy to enhance operational stability and safety.

In a statement, an Air Premia official emphasized the company’s commitment to aviation safety and operational excellence, stating, “We will continue to secure spare engines along with the introduction of new aircraft. Since aviation safety is non-negotiable, we will do our utmost to further enhance stability through continuous investment and effort.”

Further bolstering its operational credentials, Air Premia recently received “Extended Diversion Time Operation (EDTO) 180” approval, extending the maximum diversion time for its aircraft to 180 minutes. This approval is crucial for maintaining stable operations on long-haul routes. Additionally, the airline is in the process of securing the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) International Safety Operational Audit (IOSA) certification, underscoring its dedication to rigorous safety standards.

Founded on the philosophy of providing “high-quality services with only the essentials,” Air Premia is unique in South Korea as a long-haul specialized airline. It positions itself between full-service carriers and budget airlines, offering premium services at reasonable prices. The airline’s strategic investments and operational upgrades reflect its commitment to becoming a “beloved airline” in the increasingly competitive aviation market.
