Asiana Airlines Is Leaving Star Alliance in December…Here’s What It Means for Your Miles

Asiana in Star Alliance Livery

Asiana Airlines will formally exit Star Alliance on December 16, 2026, ending a 23-year membership in the world’s largest airline alliance and triggering a series of deadlines that Star Alliance frequent flyers need to pay attention to now.

The Seoul-based carrier joined Star Alliance in 2003 and has been a key partner for travelers routing through Incheon International Airport, one of Asia’s busiest hubs. The departure is tied to Asiana’s ongoing merger integration with Korean Air, which is a SkyTeam member — making the alliance switch a predictable outcome of that consolidation.

The deadlines matter. Star Alliance members can earn miles on Asiana-operated flights only through October 15, 2026. Award redemptions and upgrades on Asiana remain available for travel completed on or before December 16. Star Alliance Gold and Silver status benefits — including lounge access at eligible Asiana lounges — apply through the same December 16 cutoff.

After Asiana’s departure, 14 Star Alliance carriers will continue operating through Incheon, including United, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Turkish Airlines, and Air India, collectively running more than 1,900 monthly flights to 29 destinations worldwide.

Why It Matters: If you hold Star Alliance status or have miles banked with a member program, your window to earn and redeem on Asiana is closing. Check your upcoming travel plans now — any Asiana itineraries should be ticketed and completed before those cutoff dates.**
