IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, is sharpening its business class offering as it battles Air India and international carriers for premium passengers on both domestic and international routes.
The airline’s Stretch cabin — launched on the Delhi-Mumbai route in November 2024 — has received two notable upgrades. Priority baggage handling went live May 1, with Stretch bags tagged at origin and guaranteed to arrive first on the belt. Meal service on Airbus A321 aircraft has also been elevated to tray service with fine chinaware and steel cutlery, with rotating menus on domestic sectors and hot meals on regional international routes.
The product is expanding. IndiGo currently operates 53 dual-class aircraft including three A321XLRs flying to Athens and Istanbul, plus leased Boeing 787s serving London, Amsterdam, and Manchester. Recent additions include Chennai-Singapore and Delhi-Pune, with Bengaluru-Mauritius expected in July.
The upgrades come as IndiGo navigates a high-fare, slow-demand environment following regional tensions in West Asia — pressure that’s accelerating the airline’s push to make Stretch a more compelling alternative to Air India’s business class at a lower price point.
