An Atlas Air Boeing 747 cargo jet was forced to execute an emergency landing at Miami International Airport due to an engine fire. The Boeing 747-8 aircraft, as confirmed by Flightaware data, encountered this malfunction shortly after its departure from the airport.
The alarming situation was captured on video by a witness and shared by Only in Dade, showcasing flames emanating from one of the plane’s engines. Additionally, air traffic control received distress calls from the flight, as reported by NBC6.

Atlas Air Confirms Safe Landing Following Engine Malfunction
In response to the emergency, Atlas Air released a statement, confirming the safe landing of the cargo aircraft. “The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA,” the company stated.
Originally scheduled to journey to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Puerto Rico, Flight 5Y095 departed Miami at 10:32 p.m. ET before being rerouted back to the airport.
Following the aircraft’s safe landing, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. Miami International Airport, in a statement to Reuters, confirmed that there were no injuries reported in this incident.
