Blue Islands (SI, Jersey) has expanded its operational capacity through a strategic wet-lease agreement with Greek ACMI specialist Marathon Airlines (O8, Athens). This partnership involves the leasing of one E175 aircraft, identified by its registration SX-ASK (msn 17000330). Following its ferry from Athens to Jersey on June 8, 2024, according to ADS-B data, the aircraft swiftly commenced commercial operations the next day.
This E175 jet, known as the ALEMB-o, will serve as a crucial link connecting Jersey to a host of key destinations across the UKâincluding Southampton, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bristol International, Exeter, Norwich International, and Guernsey. Its services also extend beyond the UK to Dublin International in Ireland and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
With a seating capacity for 88 passengers in a single-class configuration, the 12.71-year-old airframe brings seasoned reliability to the Blue Islands fleet. Notably, this aircraft has been with Marathon Airlines since 2022 and previously served Alitalia CityLiner from 2011 to 2020.
Reflecting on fleet dynamics, Blue Islands currently operates a modest fleet entirely composed of ATR72-500s, while Marathon Airlines’ fleet includes three E170s, one E190, and three E195s.
Ch-aviation, which has been closely monitoring these developments, notes that further details on the lease’s duration are pending, as they have reached out to Marathon Airlines for additional insights. This lease signifies a significant enhancement in Blue Islands’ service connectivity, particularly at a time when regional air travel demands versatility and expanded route options.
