Swiss airline Edelweiss will be the first airline in Switzerland to incorporate the Airbus A350 into its fleet, starting in April 2025. The airline has announced plans to acquire six Airbus A350-900 aircraft, marking a significant enhancement in its long-haul service capabilities and environmental performance.

The integration of the Airbus A350 into Edelweiss Air’s fleet is scheduled to commence with the arrival of the first aircraft at the beginning of April 2025. Initially, this aircraft will operate on a variety of short to medium-haul routes as part of its introductory phase.

Subsequently, the aircraft will begin serving long-haul destinations, with Las Vegas designated as the inaugural long-haul route. From mid-May 2025, the Airbus A350 will fly three times a week between Zurich and Las Vegas.

The daily service on the Zurich-Vancouver-Zurich route will be introduced with the entry of the second Airbus A350 into service in early July 2025.

Edelweiss to Gradually Introduce Six Airbus A350 Aircraft by 2026

Further expansions of the fleet are planned, with the third Airbus A350 joining in October 2025, the fourth during the winter of the same year, and the final two aircraft expected in the second half of 2026. Tickets for these long-haul flights will be available for booking starting from mid-May 2024 through the Edelweiss website and other conventional sales channels.

The transition to the Airbus A350-900 reflects Edelweiss Air’s commitment to environmental sustainability and operational efficiency. The Airbus A350 is celebrated for its state-of-the-art technologies and superior aerodynamics, making it one of the most eco-friendly long-haul aircraft available.

Compared to the Airbus A340-300, which it is set to replace, the A350-900 offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, alongside noise emissions that are up to 50% lower. This shift not only aligns with global environmental goals but also enhances the airline’s competitiveness in the international market.
