In a significant development for Romanian air travel, HiSky will resume direct flights from Bucharest to New York, ending a hiatus of over two decades. Beginning June 7th, the airline will offer regular services between Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest and John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

This move follows HiSky’s recent acquisition of a Foreign Air Carrier Permit from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Notably, HiSky is the sole Romanian carrier currently authorized for this route and is equipped with an Airbus A330-200, the only aircraft of its kind in Romania capable of uninterrupted 14-hour flights.

The Bucharest-New York flights, scheduled four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, will depart Bucharest at 8:00 AM and arrive in New York at 11:25 AM local time. The return flights will leave JFK at 1:25 PM and land in Otopeni at 6:15 AM local time. HiSky offers two service classes for these flights, with economy tickets starting at 349 euros and business class at 1899 euros. The ticket price includes a hot meal and a snack for all passengers.

The Airbus A330-200, HiSky’s first wide-body aircraft, will be used for these flights. It arrived in Bucharest earlier this week, enabling non-stop service over this distance. The aircraft features an entertainment system offering various multimedia content to passengers.

HiSky's Growing Network: International and Domestic Routes from Bucharest

Since establishing its hub at Henri Coandă Airport approximately eighteen months ago, HiSky has made it the center of its operations. The airline currently runs eight international routes from Bucharest to destinations including Brussels, Barcelona, Malaga, Dublin, Chișinău, Bordeaux, Tel Aviv, and Frankfurt, along with two domestic routes to Cluj Napoca and Timișoara.

Additionally, HiSky operates regular flights from Iași, Baia Mare, Cluj Napoca, and Timișoara, as well as charter flights in collaboration with leading travel agencies. In terms of passenger numbers, HiSky is ranked fourth among airlines operating in Romania.

“We are extremely proud to officially reopen this strategic route after more than two decades. Starting June, New York will once again be listed on Otopeni Airport’s Departures-Arrivals board. This is a significant milestone for HiSky and even more so for Romania and all passengers wishing to travel across the ocean without stopovers or time wasted at other airports. The USA is now a viable travel option for the first time since air travel became accessible to everyone. We are delighted to be the ones paving this way. Three years ago, when we began operations, we aimed to be the primary choice for Romanian passengers. We’ve proven our worth through thousands of flights across Europe, and now we’re excited to give them this gift right before the holidays.”, said Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky.
