MAIRE S.p.A. has recently announced a significant development in sustainable aviation through its subsidiary MyRechemical, which specializes in Waste-to-Chemical technologies. The firm has secured a licensing contract with DG Fuels Louisiana, LLC to deploy its NX Circular gasification technology for a new Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant in Louisiana.

Set to commence operations in 2028, this plant aims to produce 450 million liters annually of SAF, leveraging residual biomass and a portion of municipal waste. This initiative marks a significant stride in the global SAF landscape, positioning it as one of the most ambitious undertakings of its kind.

Under the agreement, MyRechemical will not only license its technology but will also provide proprietary equipment for the gasification process. The technology is designed to handle 1 million tons of bagasse, along with sugar cane trash and pulp annually, forming the foundational phase for SAF production. The contract further outlines a modular approach in the equipment supply to minimize potential site-related challenges, supplemented by associated technical services.

The project aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Clean Fuels & Products Shot initiative, aiming to decarbonize the aviation sector by promoting industrial-scale SAF production. Additionally, the fuel produced will comply with the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which seeks to reduce carbon offset requirements for airlines.

DG Fuels Louisiana, a branch of the American company DG Fuels known for its renewable hydrogen and synthetic low emissions aviation fuel ventures, will be at the forefront of this project.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, commented on the project: “This landmark award confirms the reliability of our technologies and the role of MAIRE as a key player to enable the industry decarbonization through circular solutions in a strategic market such as the United States, and globally.”
