In an unusual airborne incident, a Virgin Australia flight from Perth to Melbourne had to execute a swift return to Perth Airport after a naked man created chaos onboard. Flight VA696, which took off at approximately 7:20 PM local time, was forced to turn around due to what the airline described as a “disruptive passenger.”

According to Virgin Australia, their Monday night flight didn’t go as smoothly as planned. “We can confirm on Monday 27 May, VA696 Perth to Melbourne, returned to Perth,” the airline stated. Upon landing, Australian Federal Police (AFP) were waiting to meet the aircraft, leading to the swift offloading of the unruly guest.

The AFP detailed that the disruption escalated when the man, devoid of clothing, decided to sprint down the aisle, inadvertently knocking over a crew member in the process. He was arrested upon the flight’s return to Perth just before 8:00 PM and subsequently hospitalized for assessment.

While the specifics of the charges remain undecided, the AFP anticipates that the man will be summoned to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on June 14. The ongoing investigation into the incident keeps certain details under wraps.

Virgin Australia has reassured that despite the unexpected detour, the flight crew handled the situation with professionalism, ensuring the safety and security of all passengers. “The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority and we sincerely apologise to guests impacted,” the airline commented, maintaining their commitment to passenger safety amidst unforeseen disturbances.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported aboard VA696, but the incident certainly provided an unexpected twist to what would have otherwise been a routine flight. As the investigation continues, those involved hope for clarity and a swift resolution to an undoubtedly turbulent episode.
