Santo Domingo de Aviación (Sadoavi) is nearing completion of the certification process under the Dominican Aeronautical Regulation (RAD 121), positioning it to receive an airworthiness certificate (AOC) and enter the commercial aviation market in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) has confirmed that upon receiving the necessary certifications, the airline will be authorized to operate in the national airspace in compliance with current regulations. Héctor Porcella, the general director of IDAC, noted that Sadoavi is a low-cost, Dominican-owned airline and will set up its operational base in Puerto Plata province.

Initially, Sadoavi plans to commence operations with two Boeing 737-300 aircraft, each with a capacity of 150 passengers. This addition will increase the total number of seats available through Dominican airlines by 300, bringing the total to over 3,100 seats in the country’s commercial aviation sector.

The airline’s commercial name and logo are registered under Carlos Alberto Silva at the National Industrial Property Office (Onapi), with the most recent registration dated February 15, 2022, as reported by Diario Libre.

Hugo Antonio Columna Vásquez serves as the manager of the airline, which is headquartered at 851 NE 1st Avenue in Miami, Florida.

Following the acquisition of its AOC, Sadoavi’s next steps will involve continuing its formalization with the Civil Aviation Board (JAC). This body will be responsible for authorizing the specific air routes the new carrier will be permitted to operate. This strategic expansion into the aviation sector is indicative of a growing demand for more accessible air travel options within the Dominican Republic.
