A Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin encountered severe turbulence on Sunday, resulting in injuries to twelve individuals. The flight, QR107, landed safely at Dublin Airport shortly before 1 pm local time, where it was met by emergency services, including airport police and the fire and rescue department.
Dublin Airport issued a statement confirming that six passengers and six crew members were injured, with eight individuals transported to the hospital following initial assessment. The turbulence occurred while the aircraft was flying over Turkey.
Despite the incident, Dublin Airport reported that its operations were unaffected and assured that it was providing assistance to passengers and staff. The return flight to Doha, QR018, is scheduled to proceed as planned, albeit with a delay.
In a statement to CNN, Qatar Airways emphasized that the flight landed safely and that “a small number of passengers and crew sustained minor injuries in flight and are now receiving medical attention.” The airline added, “The matter is now subject to an internal investigation. The safety and security of our passengers and crew are our top priority.”
This incident follows closely on the heels of another severe turbulence event involving Singapore Airlines. Flight SQ321 from London to Singapore saw 104 passengers injured and tragically resulted in the death of a man with a heart condition. During that flight, the aircraft sharply dropped and ascended several times while cruising at 37,000 feet, as indicated by flight tracking data.
