Aerospace, Inc., a leader in aviation innovation, has recently made strides with its subsidiary, XTI Aircraft Company, in securing intellectual property rights for its pioneering TriFan 600 aircraft. This fixed-wing vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft is currently under development, designed to combine the agility of helicopters with the speed and range of business jets.

XTI Aircraft submitted a non-provisional patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trade Office and filed notifications with 157 countries under the Patent Cooperation Treaty. These applications focus on innovations such as the pivoting ducted fans, which allow the aircraft to seamlessly switch from vertical lift to horizontal thrust.

Scott Pomeroy, the chairman and CEO of XTI Aerospace, emphasized the importance of these patents: “The new patent applications illustrate our ongoing commitment to innovation, and we believe they will solidify our position as a market leader in this new and disruptive powered-lift aircraft category.” Pomeroy highlighted the strategic value of these patents, stating, “Issuance of the China patent further enhanced our existing patent portfolio around the TriFan 600 in the U.S., Europe, and several other countries. In addition to guarding against unauthorized use of our intellectual property, we plan to leverage our portfolio to differentiate ourselves in the market and to facilitate strategic growth and expansion.”

Pomeroy also discussed the revolutionary potential of the TriFan 600: “We believe the TriFan 600 airplane will revolutionize point-to-point air travel by combining the comfort, speed, and range of similar size conventional business aircraft with the flexibility, convenience, and pinpoint transportation achievable only with a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.” He noted that the aircraft targets a broad market, including business and commuter travel, regional airlines, charter services, private air services, and medevac operations.

The company has already conducted multiple hover tests of a two-thirds scale unmanned proof-of-concept version of the TriFan. Additionally, a recent collaboration with AVX Aircraft Company aims to further design and development efforts, potentially accelerating the project and reducing costs.

XTI Aerospace, headquartered near Denver, Colorado, is developing this new category of aircraft called the vertical lift crossover airplane (VLCA). It promises speeds of 345 mph and a range of 700 miles. The company also operates a business unit called Inpixon, which specializes in real-time location systems (RTLS) technology, aiding various industries in enhancing operational efficiency and safety.
