Tucson Airport traces its roots back to the early 1920s when a group of Tucson business leaders formed the first municipally owned airport in the United States...which was later operated in 1948 by the Tucson airport authority.
In the ensuing years, the airport has undergone several expansions and renovations. ...a new terminal building was constructed. In 1963, the runway length was increased to accommodate larger aircraft and flights to Mexico were activated. Tucson International Airport was born.
