Frontier Airlines, the Denver-based ultra-low-cost carrier, has announced a significant expansion of its service, including its inaugural operations from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) starting in June.
The airline will introduce twice daily round trips between JFK and Luis Munoz International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, marking its first venture from JFK. Additionally, Frontier will reinstate its service from Newark Liberty International Airport to San Juan with one to two daily flights, resuming operations in Newark after a hiatus of two years.
The airline is also set to launch its first international route from Phoenix, offering new service to Los Cabos, Mexico. This expansion includes twice weekly round trips between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and San Jose del Cabo International Airport (SJD), commencing on May 16.
Furthermore, Frontier will initiate service between John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California, and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with four weekly round trips starting July 11.
Frontier's Expansion Continues with Inaugural International Flight from Phoenix
This series of announcements also highlights Frontier’s return to international flights from Phoenix, previously offering services to Los Cabos from Denver International Airport (DEN) in 2023 and from both Denver and Las Vegas in 2022.
In addition to the new routes from JFK and Newark, Frontier disclosed two more service additions, including the mentioned Phoenix to San Jose del Cabo route and a short-haul flight in California.
Frontier’s expansion into the New York market is further underscored by a substantial increase in capacity. Before the announcement of the JFK and Newark services, the airline’s seating capacity out of LaGuardia Airport (LGA) was projected to rise by 102% over the previous year, according to Cirium, an aviation analytics firm.
